On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, His Excellency Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Mr. Niccolò Fontana, Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, and an accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the region، the relations between Italy and the Kurdistan Region and Iraq، the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region and the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
The process of reform and reunification of the Peshmerga and the issue of the formation of a new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) were another part of the discussions of the meeting، which was attended by Mr. Tommaso Sansoni، Consul General of Italy in the Kurdistan Region.
